Renewal positions supported by the client's own experience

A renewal position argued from the previous year's spreadsheet depends on the client accepting it without supporting evidence. Prizmetrics analyses the files the client already receives from their insurer or third-party administrator and produces both the analysis and the material presented from it.

The client's own experience

A carrier proposing a rate increase is making an assertion about a specific portfolio. Responding to it requires the same portfolio analysed on a stated basis: the loss ratio at a defined report date, the proportion still to be reported, and the groups, networks and benefits accounting for it.

This converts a negotiation about percentages into a negotiation about evidence, including evidence that is unfavourable. Where a portfolio has genuinely deteriorated, establishing that before the meeting is more useful than establishing it during one.

Separation between clients

Each client's portfolio is held separately, with its own data, assumptions and membership. Access is granted one portfolio at a time, so a colleague working on one account cannot read another, and the boundary is enforced by the application and independently by the database rather than by a filter within a query.

This is of greater consequence for a broker than for a carrier, since a broker holds the experience of competing insurers concurrently and must be able to describe the separation to each of them. Access and enforcement.

Client reporting

Every view exports to Excel and to a printable report. Both state the report date, the assumption behind estimated IBNR and its day window, the target loss ratio, the medical inflation rate and the large-loss threshold on the face of the file, so that the basis of each figure is available to the client and to the underwriter receiving it.

Producing the same material for a further client repeats the same three steps rather than requiring a new spreadsheet, as the column mapping is retained per source system and most clients export from a limited number of them.

Input requirements

The premium register and claims extract produced by the client's insurer or third-party administrator. No template has to be populated and no reformatting is required. Columns are matched against a defined vocabulary, and any that cannot be resolved with confidence are presented for confirmation before the file is loaded. Extract requirements.

Identifying columns are deleted from each record before mapping, which can be stated to a client asking what happens to their members' data before the file is provided.

Evaluation

A demonstration is conducted on a live client extract rather than on sample data. Prizmetrics will confirm what the analysis would require, including any fields the extract does not currently contain.
